One of my goals this summer is to do a lot more cooking and crafts, which I love. In the last few days I made a dericious super mushroomy mushroom soup, cilantro pesto, and yesterday I made my own solid perfume! It was an idea from my latest Bust subscription and they actually smell awesome.
Here's whatcha gotta do:
Buy a plain chapstick, (double check that it's original, I bought 4 cherry kinds cause I'm a dummy) crank it all the way up and break it off. Melt it down in the microwave, checking it every 30 seconds and giving it a swirl or a stir.
When it's all melted, you add 10-15 drops of your essential oils of choice. The magazine said 5-10 drops but you gotta cover up that weirdo Chapstick smell. Bust also gave some recipe's for different scents, sometimes with more than 3 essential oils, but if you've ever gone to buy them you'd know that the price is $10-$40 depending on which one it is. Ridiculous! So I cheaped out and went for just a one oil per perfume kind of smell: lemon and jasmine. Two of my favorite smells!
Once you've mixed up the mixture you have to pour it back into the tube, so make sure you twist the Chapstick back down. I used a small funnel and will probably buy a tinier one for next time. You aren't going to put as much back into the tube as what came out, because some of the waxiness sticks to the funnel, bowl, spatula, everything. So I recommend once its as back in the tube as it gets, to twist it up so it's just about at the top. (This makes it look nicer and more smooth)
Then you let it sit, it doesn't take very long to harden. I was able to cut my labels out of the magazine, but you can also download them from the website. I didn't have a glue stick so I just used tape to make a shiny lil coat for it. Then wa-lah! You have your own DIY Perfume!
