I think something really bad and hockey related must have happened in Vancouver last night. Hope all the friends I know out there were able to stay safe!
But actually, sweet and scary video by Romain Gavras, who did M.I.A's "Born Free."

Just Love Em! continued
POTTERY MUGS
It all started back a few years ago, when a very nice boy gave me a pottery mug for my birthday. (Bottom Left) The color pleased me, his mom had made it which is cool, it was perfect for cupping in my hands and it was really well made! Although the beautiful mug and mad hay bail chuckin' skills were not enough to win my heart, my 'Doug Mug' is still one of my favorites. From there I started collecting pottery mugs, there's nothing better than having a great cup of coffee in your favorite mug. My mom buys me one for present-giving occasions, and has even requested that she start her own collection cause I'm definitely taking em' all with me!

Girls Night In
I had the biggest TV day today, and even though the total time count that I slobbed it up in bed for was kind of gross, I loved every second of it. A few Mad Men's, a couple Archers, Chronicle, SNL, and a documentary called "Miss Representation." When I finish a semester, I need a few weeks off of things to do with my schooling. Even though I'm excited to read for pleasure I need a break from reading, I don't want to watch things that have to do with my degree, etc. As I downloaded this documentary I realized that my "forget everything I learned this semester" phase must be up. It made me happy that I am minoring in Gender Studies, confirming that what I'm learning is actually important and relevant.
Miss Representation is about the negative portrayal of women in the media and how they are under-represented. Some of the clips were absolutely shocking, especially the little montage of news stories and the disgustingly misogynist ways that the male news casters talked about women. Politics are politics and you can have opinions on whatever politicians and political parties you like, (hey, let's say "politics" some more!) but seeing how Hilary Clinton and Sarah Palin are treated simply because they are women was disgusting and gave me a new respect for all the bullshit they've had to go through.
I highly recommend watching this documentary! It has commentary from Gloria Steinem, Geena Davis, Rosario Dawson, Condoleeza Rice and Margaret Cho among others. I fear having kids in this crazy ol' day and age, especially a daughter. But I think that Miss Representation is the start of something very helpful for young ladies out there!

Film is the best. It's always a surprise when you get it developed, which is the best part, not to mention I love the way film looks. I had forgotten about Leslie's poutine, and did not know that I had taken an awesome picture of Rob and Marshall, two of the best guys! Yeeeey film.

Adam Yaunch
I still think that buying the Beastie Boys "The Sounds of Science" was one of the best gifts that I ever gave to somebody. I listened to them with friends as we drove across Canada, out to Victoria right after high school. I've had tons of pawdy nights where Beastie Boys were all we'd listen to, and tons of days where I just watch Beastie Boys videos on repeat. The Beastie Boys are one of the most respected groups across any genre and this loss is huge.
RIP Adam Yaunch. :(

Perfume Genius
One of my goals this summer is to do a lot more cooking and crafts, which I love. In the last few days I made a dericious super mushroomy mushroom soup, cilantro pesto, and yesterday I made my own solid perfume! It was an idea from my latest Bust subscription and they actually smell awesome.
Here's whatcha gotta do:
Buy a plain chapstick, (double check that it's original, I bought 4 cherry kinds cause I'm a dummy) crank it all the way up and break it off. Melt it down in the microwave, checking it every 30 seconds and giving it a swirl or a stir.
When it's all melted, you add 10-15 drops of your essential oils of choice. The magazine said 5-10 drops but you gotta cover up that weirdo Chapstick smell. Bust also gave some recipe's for different scents, sometimes with more than 3 essential oils, but if you've ever gone to buy them you'd know that the price is $10-$40 depending on which one it is. Ridiculous! So I cheaped out and went for just a one oil per perfume kind of smell: lemon and jasmine. Two of my favorite smells!
Once you've mixed up the mixture you have to pour it back into the tube, so make sure you twist the Chapstick back down. I used a small funnel and will probably buy a tinier one for next time. You aren't going to put as much back into the tube as what came out, because some of the waxiness sticks to the funnel, bowl, spatula, everything. So I recommend once its as back in the tube as it gets, to twist it up so it's just about at the top. (This makes it look nicer and more smooth)
Then you let it sit, it doesn't take very long to harden. I was able to cut my labels out of the magazine, but you can also download them from the website. I didn't have a glue stick so I just used tape to make a shiny lil coat for it. Then wa-lah! You have your own DIY Perfume!
