This new video from Odd Future is fun, and the official comeback of Earl Sweatshirt, who has been "missing" aka in a military school in Samoa. OFWGKTA are on a photo set, and you can see glimpses of famous fashion photog Terry Richardson trying to take pictures of the boys, which you can probably tell from the video would be a difficult task. (Head over to Terry's website, ladies, he just uploaded some new ones of James Franco, taday) This video is of the group plus several of their friends horsing around with tons of props and having spontaneous fun. Frank Ocean is in the background, and he seems a little more mature than the rest of his friends.. I was concerned that he would just be in the back, nonchalantly sippin on his drink like the dad of the group, but he comes in and lays down a sweet bit, rapping instead of his usual croon. I've never listened to Mike G's solo albums, nor did I really know that he was Warren G's cousin, or that he even existed. However his part in "Oldie" is one of my favorites! He's got that smooth southerny drawl that is always amazing in rap. Plus he's got a grill. Earl Sweatshirt (one of my favorite names in the game) has his reunion with the group in this video. He's one of the stars of the video, laughing up a storm and having a great time, and you can tell that his friends are happy to have their little guy back.
I saw an interview the other day with Tyler the Creator, Earl Sweatshirt and non-rapping buddy Taco. Most of these kids are under 21, except for my Frank Ocean who is slightly older at 24. Which leads me to ask, why, when these little shits go solo, their lyrics are so dark, scary, weird, sexual and way too rapey? They're too young to know about any of those things! I think they're super talented, have great voices, great "flow"... and I really like Earl Sweatshirts 'tourist dad' outfits. Rap is known for its misogynist lyrics but I can't actually listen to most of their solo music cause it either freaks me out, grosses me out, or is just against my lady morals. I think that they should just stick together as a group, and make non-disgusting songs and videos just like this one. OFWGKTA's new album, The OF Tape Vol. 2 was released today. I haven't listened to it yet, and am not sure if I will. This video put a nice image of the boys in my mind, and I know listening to their music has huge potential to ruin that for me.
