Cant Wait 4 Doris Day!

Earl Sweatshirt is back and it's awesome.  I wanted to like his 2010 album Earl- he's a cute/weird lookin kid, his voice is rad and he has the coolest name in the game, but his lyrics were way too dark, creepy and rapey and I couldn't go for that.  This time around, with the two songs released from his upcoming album Doris are much more pleasing to my lady ears.  Hopefully everyones.  His most recent single, "Woah" addresses his earlier days of being nazzty:  "Dudes* think cause you fuckin' made Chum and got all personal/That dudes* won't go back to that old fuckin' 2010 shit/About talkin' 'bout fuckin' everything all/No fuck that dude* I got you."  So, see?  He's better now!

Not that I really knew what the music was like on his previous album, because I wouldn't listen to it but what I've heard of Doris so far is awesome old-schooly beats.  "Woah" has sweet drums and probably a keyboard, but my ears can't tell.  "Chum" has a looping piano riff with pretty basic drums.  Both songs give me a nice feeling and make me want throw on some big headphones and swag-walk around Winnipeg.

The videos for these songs are also awesome.  Especially "Woah."  It's funny, its featuring (and directed by) Tyler the Creator amongst other Wolf Gang members, there's a "rode hard and put away wet" old lady ballerina and one of my favorite parts is Earl Sweatshirt lounging on a floatie, sippin on a drink in about 4 inches of gross water at the bottom of an empty pool that dudes be BMXing around.  Check them out below.

I can't find the release date for Doris, but 'chegirl's getting excited.

*"Dude" is the new N-word!

Farewell Transmission

In one article I just found out that Songs: Ohia and Magnolia Electric Co. singer and creator Jason Molina had a serious problem with alcohol and that he passed away two days ago because of it.  Songs: Ohia is a band that I've listen to for years, it was on the mixtape that changed a lot of things for me, and I still listen to them on the regular.  Although I thought Magnolia Electric Co. was Neutral Milk Hotel and vice versa because I got the CD's at the same time and fucked up putting them on my computer, I still loved their album Trials and Errors and would listen to it in my room in Victoria.  Neither of Molina's bands have put out anything recent that I've listened to but his death is a huge loss in the music world.  If you haven't had at least a crush on The Magnolia Electric Co. (that's the album title) by Songs: Ohia then you need to take a time out and do some catching up.  RIP.

Before this blog post ended up sad I was going to title it "Are You There, Terry? It's Me, 101"
